Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 11 – So here’s the thing about pigs – we have been known to save the lives of people. For the life of me I can’t imagine why – considering how humans treat us – but there are documented stories of pigs pulling  people out of rivers, bogs and pools. We have also been known to save drowning dogs and goats. And a Mother pig will fight for her piglets if she has the chance.

We have at least 20 vocalizations so we communicate with one another all the time. Recognizing danger is important to us.  In the wild we can be prey – but most predators – think twice before attacking a full grown boar! We have been domesticated for at least five thousand years – probably longer – so pigs know a lot. If you find yourself flailing around in the middle of a lake with severe stomach cramps and there is a pig on the shore – when you call him for help – you might want to mention that you’re a vegan!
