CACH Goes Wild In The Klein Karoo – South Africa

CACH Goes Wild In The Klein Karoo – South Africa

Chris Mercer and Bev Pervan – The Karoo Wildlife Centre

CACH Goes Wild In The Klein Karoo – South Africa – I have great admiration for people who  see a need – decide they can help and then step up and make that dream a reality. Chris and Bev have worked tirelessly for years to protect wild lions through their world renowned organization CACH – Campaign Against Canned Hunting. Now they have taken their work an exciting step further and are developing a wildlife rescue centre and sanctuary.

Animal advocacy is crucial.
Raising awareness is vital.
Working for change at a policy level is essential.

But WE can do more!

CACH evolved through wildlife rescue. Now CACH is going back to its roots. We have purchased 175 hectares in the Klein Karoo near Ladismith. Here with your help – we will establish an iconic wildlife rescue centre and sanctuary for all the orphaned and injured animals that are endemic to the area. The animals are mostly small mammals and birds. We expect – meerkats, foxes, porcupines, jackals, caracals.  Leopard and baboons are around but it will be some time before we have infrastructure for that.

Our Mission

Development of South Africa’s premier sanctuary and wildlife rehabilitation centre, completely funded by volunteer (ECO) tourism along ethical and sustainable protocols.

To establish a centre which will be able to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned wildlife which is endemic to the Klein Karoo.
Internally funded breeding and release programs of designated endangered or threatened species, such as a vulture breeding program.

Employment creation within local communities.
Development of conservation education programs within local schools enhanced by hands-on involvement by children during visits to the centre/reserve.
Promotion and use of alternative energy (solar) as a sustainable power resource.

How Will We Fund The Centre

A Volunteer Program gives tourists the opportunity to get actively involved in a cause they are passionate about and gain enormous personal reward from taking part – ‘Volunteers’ and ‘Volunteering’ provide the ability to provide funding and assistance to achieve sustainable support for a genuinely good cause. We are appealing to organisations to sponsor the Karoo Wildlife Centre which will help CACH to establish iconic enclosures and camps for the wildlife.

The centre will be completely green – powered by only clean – renewable energy. Hey! Do you want to be a part of this exciting new project? If you do – your next holiday could help save wildlife.
