Feeling Thankful
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 3, 2004 – Many days go by, when I take my life completely for granted. I forget all the things I have to be grateful for and focus instead on the “list” of things that need to be done, some of which I don’t particularly enjoy and don’t want to do.
As if I’m the only person with these daily tasks! It would be smart to do those things first, but that would take away my quotient of whining for the day. Today was a cool, rainy Saturday – the kind of day to spend in front of the fireplace with a good book. I had to work, so that was out of the question. Surprisingly, even though I still have this foul cold, it’s been a great day.
I had a morning meeting with delightful clients who spiked my coffee with liberal doses of Baileys or perhaps it was the other way around. I got home about 2:30 or so, and have been busy for the rest of the day. I finished up some real estate work and then read for awhile in the living room, in front of the fireplace. As I sat on the sofa, I looked around my home and was quite over-whelmed with gratitude for my life.
So this is simply a day of thankfulness as exemplified by the following:
Except for this persistent cold – flu “bug” – I am healthy.
Dina and her husband Joe cleaned my home today and when I came in the back door I was greeted by that lovely clean, lemony smell.
Dina made my bed for me with newly laundered sheets so I get to slide into a fresh, warm bed tonight.
I adore Augie and Ziggy and often forget the great joy they add to my life.
I love my home and I’m really proud that I’ve been able to provide for myself so well.
I have beautiful possessions in my home that represent my personality and style.
I’m very good at my job!
I’ve started my exercise program once again and am pleased that I keep trying to move forward, instead of just giving up.
I have food in my fridge and I’m never hungry.
I have money in the bank and can meet my financial obligations.
I am sticking with my creative urge to write. As of today I have completed 95 little stories.
I truly believe that the Universe continues to provide me with unlimited opportunities for a wonderful life. At 54 – I’m starting to pay attention!
So take a moment and think about your life and all the things that are good in it. It doesn’t mean that you don’t have problems and won’t be faced with new challenges. But just for this minute, this hour or this day – focus on all that is “right”, and then make that the foundation for tomorrow!
