Auckland – New Zealand Is Marching  In The International Lion March

Ban Canned Lion Hunting

Auckland – New Zealand Is Marching  In The International Lion March – On March 15, 2014 – Organizer Shona Lyon who learned about Canned Lion Hunting – realized that she could make a difference. She knew that – “It’s so easy to get overwhelmed with all the terrible injustices throughout our world”.

“I know I can be and I have been. This realization has really left me paralysed and in a shocked state. But the antidote to inaction is action and so we are marching for the lions in Auckland – New Zealand an we are so proud to join all the other cities worldwide who are taking up this incredibly important cause”.

“I wanted to believe that good always wins over bad. That everyone has a good heart – that you just need to dig a little deeper with some . That if only I tried harder that things would work out. But what that meant was that I didn’t or rather couldn’t accept the world for how it is. I truly believe that we are all capable of anything given the right environment and triggers! We all have a shadow as well as light.

It’s a matter of choice and knowing and understanding that these daily choices matter. Seeing a shadow, then shining a light on it so people can see. We are human beings and so have free will, no one can make someone choose to do things differently but they can lead the way by making their own “right” decisions. Really we can only act as mirrors to each other and reflect back the wrongs we see! I saw a “wrong” in Canned Lion Hunting”.

 As Chris Mercer says:

Canned hunting is where the target animal is unfairly prevented from escaping the hunter, either by physical constraints (fencing) or by mental constraints (tame, habituated to humans.)

It took me several attempts to watch the full video that was placed on the global march website because I was overwhelmed and am still overwhelmed with sadness for those beautiful lions and us all. That we continue as a species to make the heartless decisions we do. But I will not steel my heart against the injustices to those less fortunate or to those who cannot protect themselves.

WHAT IS CANNED HUNTING?

– It’s the cruel practice of hunting an animal in an enclosed space without any chance of escape. The torture of a canned lion begins as a cub and continues through each stage of the life cycle.

– Cubs are torn from their mothers soon after birth and kept in cub-petting zoos.

– Ignorant volunteers pay for the “privilege” to “care for” the cubs, all destined to be killed in an enclosed camp where they will have no way of escape.

– Lions are often shot numerous times to prevent “spoiling” the “trophy” with a shot in the head, which will be mounted on a foreign wall.

– Lion bones are then exported to Asia for bogus medicine.

“If we steel our hearts we will walk away with hatred or do nothing because it all seems so hopeless and what’s the point. I need to be brave and watch the video and hold the sadness and feel the pain and then reflect that back. Appeal to their hearts by having ours open and standing steady and strong!! If our hearts are closed with anger then theirs will be too”.

We will call on our governments to BAN the deplorable Canned Hunting Industry. We will raise awareness to educate the rest of the world regarding every stage of the life-cycle of torture of a canned lion – the world needs to know and stop supporting the cub-petting experience – the first steps of untold misery for cubs ripped away from their mothers soon after birth. The fraudulent luring of ignorant volunteers who pay for the “privilege” to “care for” the cubs – all destined to be killed in an enclosed camp where they will have no way of escape. They are often shot numerous times in the body to prevent “spoiling” the trophy with a shot in the head, which will then be mounted on a wall in the home of the “hunter”
