As Long As There Are Slaughterhouses
Killing Is Killing – The Taking Of A Life
“As Long As There Are Slaughterhouses – There Will Be Battlefields” – Leo Tolstoy (1828 – 1910) – these profoundly wise words from one of Russia’s finest writers are no surprise considering his strong belief in non-violent resistance and his deep understanding of human behaviour. During his forties Tolstoy had a moral crisis followed by a spiritual awakening. He condemned all war – the authoritarian control of government and the concentrated wealth of the aristocracy. He believed in the merits of vegetarianism and if he was alive today I think he might well be involved in animal activism – (the italics are mine).

Stop The Badger Cull In The U.K.
Killing Is NOT The Answer
Stop The Badger Cull In The U.K. – People with small minds and no imagination almost always resort to “killing”as the answer to most areas of conflict between Nature and human kind. In the U.K. – home of pomp and circumstance – red jacketed fox hunters and boot stomping over the moors macho men – it is no different. Hang the science – forget that culls are very rarely successful and incredibly expensive – let’s just go and kill animals!

Rage – Thou Art Now My Constant Companion
Please Tell Me That I Am Not Alone
Rage – Thou Art Now My Constant Companion – “Perhaps there is a Book of Life – in it will be found the name of “every” beautiful animal – bird – fish – and even a dragonfly named Lucy – who has ever graced the Earth. They will be remembered by the Universe because they were good and selfless. Missing from this book will be the name of every human”. I wrote this on a morning when I was feeling particularly repelled by human kind. By noon I had mellowed after seeing some good news stories.

Cruelty Creep
Man’s Ongoing Descent Into Chaos
Cruelty Creep – “People speak about the “bestial” cruelty of man, but that is terribly unjust and offensive to beasts, no animal could ever be so cruel as a man, so artfully, so artistically cruel” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

ABH – For The Love Of Farm Animals
ABH – For The Love Of Farm Animals – Few things are more endearing to the human heart than the sight of new born farm animals! From sweet, fluffy yellow chicks to waddling baby ducks – to little white goats and lambs and pink-nosed calves cavorting around the barn yard – we are enchanted. They produce an immediate “aw” and make us want to touch, cuddle and interact with them.

Volunteering – An African Experience – Part 2
The Reality Of Tonje’s Second Volunteer Experience
Volunteering – An African Experience – Part 2. This is Tonje’s second experience – volunteering in Africa. After I went home, I talked with another woman who told me she would open her own rehabilitation centre and that she would care for lions and other animals. Since I had met this woman at this other park and I thought she was a really nice person, my best friend and I decided to go as volunteers to her place in South Africa (Ingwe Wildlife Centre).
