It was Linda’s choice and interestingly enough she disliked the book intensely. I could see why because it was a little slow in places and more than a bit repetitive in spots.

Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 17 – So here’s the thing about pigs – we are the inspiration for a lot of idioms in pop culture (most of them factually incorrect) – and I have to say – I just don’t like this fact at all. For instance – “sweat like a pig” – pigs don’t sweat – we have no sweat glands – the very reason why we like to swim and roll in the mud. “Pig out” – to eat like a glutton – the reality is that we are famous for only eating until we are full – we know nothing of over-indulging.

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – December 17, 2004 – I had a bet with Dorothy a couple of weeks ago. The wager was on the name of the Richard Gere – Diane Lane film about a marriage on the rocks. Dorothy was convinced that the movie was called Infidelity. I knew that was close – but no cigar.

Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 16 – So here’s the thing about pigs – we are #4 – that’s right 4th in the smarts category. Only chimpanzees – dolphins and the mighty elephants are deemed to be more intelligent than we are – and personally I’m not so sure about the dolphins.

And something else I bet you didn’t know – just like babies – we like to investigate things with our mouths. We’re inquisitive and testing something by tasting it is natural for us. That’s why we like to root around with our snouts and why humans who don’t want us to disturb their precious grounds or gardens do this to us. It is incredibly painful for our sensitive noses and denies us our most basic instincts. Some human people are not very nice!

Most of our agents turned up – some decked out in festive dress, most of us attired a cut above our usual real estate garb.

Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 15 – So here’s the thing about pigs – pigs are fairly sophisticated. They like music, they like to play, they are as smart as your 3 year old child, they can learn to play video games, they are observant and seem to really enjoy the process of living when given the chance.

And something else I bet you didn’t know – pigs are enthusiastic and more than willing to enjoy new experiences. They love to run when they can and they make nests for their newborn piglets. A sow loves being a Mother. In factory farms every natural instinct that they have is denied them and they can go crazy with the confinement. There are few cruelties more appalling than this.
