Tiger Living – Day 2
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – August 22, 2004 – Big and I had dinner last night at Dorothy’s. My brother is away for the week-end at a cottage, so it was a gals’ night of laughs, conversation and great food. My sister-in-law is a magnificent cook. She can whip up gourmet fare in a nanosecond. Last night’s offering was olives and marinated mushrooms as an appetizer, BBQ chicken, a rice and apricot dish and green beans.

Factory Farming Evil – Part 2 – Veal
Factory Farming Evil – Part 2 – Veal – The very concept of “factory farming” is heinous – maximum profit – minimum care – over crowding – appalling cruelty – the lobbying for ag-gag laws – lack of oversight and inspections – confined living space – no vet care – untrained, ignorant and often cruel workers – crowded transport to slaughterhouses – long distance live transport from countries of origin – forced living in filth – dank and dark buildings – no fresh air or sunlight – forced feeding and deprivation. Karla Rohova – An Animal Activist Awakens
Karla Rohova – An Animal Activist Awakens – One of the most amazing things about having my animal awareness blog “A Beating Heart” is the number of amazing people that I connect with from around the world. It is one of the reasons why I remain hopeful in the face of impossibly appalling human behaviour. Read Karla’s story about awakening to the fact that she could get involved. Karla now talks to people she knows in The Czech Republic and she is making a difference. March with people in 116 cities around the world on World Animal Day – October 4, 2014. Let Karla inspire you to get involved and help these beautiful, endangered animals.

Elephant Family – Living With Elephants
Elephant Family – Living With Elephants – One of the most iconic creatures in the world – aptly described by John Donne as – “Nature’s great masterpiece – an elephant – the only harmless great thing.” There cannot be a better description of an elephant. Unfortunately the conflict between elephants and humans can be a very real problem in parts of the world.
This was the case in the tea plantations in Southern India until solutions were sought that would satisfy both sides of the conflict. Elephant Family does incredible work with Asian Elephants. Learn more about them at – www.elephantfamily.org

The Empress of Excuses
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – August 20, 2004 – That’s me! I can come up with an excuse for every hour of the day, every day of the week and every week of the year. There is no getting past me if I don’t want to do something. Now if I “have” to do something, that’s another story altogether.
