Adrift
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – August 11, 2004 – So how am I doing without my computer? NOT very well it seems. I’m feeling totally aimless – unfocussed and scattered. I know I have client E-mails that are going unanswered and as the middle of the month fast approaches, I have no newsletters ready to send out and no new articles for my monthly column Tricks of the Trade.

DSWT – The Lifeline For Orphaned Elephants
DSWT – The Lifeline For Orphaned Elephants – The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust reminds us why we recognize World Elephant Day on August 12 and why we are marching for elephants – lions and rhinos in October. These majestic animals are threatened, poached and endangered.

The Dreaded Telephone Call
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – August 10, 2004 – It’s back to work for me this morning after a two week break, which incidentally wasn’t nearly long enough. My pager has been turned on and the phone calls started at nine o’clock sharp. “How was your holiday Roe? – now I have this problem I’d like you to handle for me.” “Can you book an appointment for tomorrow at noon – no eleven isn’t convenient for me, if you could just re-arrange your schedule it would be great”.

A Day Without My Computer
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – August 9, 2004 – A Day Without My Computer – I may have already mentioned that I bought my first computer in 1989. My prior technological expertise was limited to a black dial telephone. I was quite comfortable with its many features – rotary dial device, dial tone, busy signal – wait for an incoming call – pick up – chat – hang up.

A Cloudy Day & Scrambled Eggs
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – August 8, 2004 – What you may well ask, does one have to do with the other? Well, if you give me a minute, I’m going to explain. After my trip to Stratford yesterday and a last minute decision to watch The Big Lebowski on television last night, I was exhausted this morning. It was a sunny, blue-sky morning and I took Augie for his walk at eight-thirty, then dove back into bed and snoozed until eleven o’clock.

A Day Trip To Stratford
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – August 7, 2004 – Last evening I had one of my dreadful, thrashing, menopausal nights. Snuffed sinus cavities, hot sweats, covers off-covers on and an inability to settle down and get comfortable. At quarter to four I was still awake. I had to get up at seven-thirty to get ready to go to the theatre at Stratford. Eric and Dorothy’s birthday gift this year was a picnic by the river and tickets to King John.

World Animal Day – October 4, 2014
World Animal Day – October 4, 2014 – Human beings have far more in common than not – but we tend to forget that in our constant striving for supremacy – we are right and you are wrong – greed – the pursuit of money and recognition – the need to dominate – corruption – the destruction of our environment by irresponsible corporations and absurd political posturing.
