Dollar Stores

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 21, 2004 – I like nothing better than a half hour to kill in a good dollar store. There have been discount stores for as long as I can remember. They existed long before Wal Mart invaded the world and set up shop in every available mall. Towers and Zellers have enjoyed a share of the consumers’ dollars for a long time, and while they’re not as up-market as the higher end department stores, their wares are varied and interesting.

Connecting The Dots

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 20, 2004 – When I was a kid, my parents didn’t have a lot of discretionary income, so expensive and elaborate toys weren’t part of our lives. I had a couple of dolls – Stephanie my ballerina and Penelope a chubby doll with a cloth body and china arms, legs and head. I think I must have inherited her from someone else, because she also happened to be bald.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 19, 2004 – I was clearing some stuff out of an old pine box in my den today, when I came across a book of writings and saying that I’d put together in 1993 and 1994. My life at the time was a tad chaotic. I was still confused and angry over the demise of a really “bad” relationship. I should have been dancing a jig, but instead I chose a long, hard recovery.

Baby Elephant Smuggling

Baby Elephant Smuggling

Baby Elephant Smuggling – It is NOT cool to engage in elephant tourism – full stop! Wise Advice

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 18, 2004  – As I’ve grow older I’ve added a number of lessons to my store of life experience, but I still have a thing or two to learn about wisdom. I have an unhealthy tendency to hang on to negative situations, wishing that they were otherwise and brooding over the how, wherefore and why of the behaviour of others. I’m not talking about a specific situation here – just in general terms

Our Horizon – Creating Awareness About Climate Change

Our Horizon – Creating Awareness About Climate Change

Our Horizon – Creating Awareness About Climate Change – Everyone can do something to help change the world. It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed by the problems in our global societies. Finding common ground culturally – economically – politically and financially is difficult – but – if we look at life in its simplest form – we know that if humans behaved with compassion – kindness – honour – personal integrity and genuine caring for our planet and all sentient beings – we would have a very different world.

Remembering Jan

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 17, 2004 – In 1977 I was living in a big stone house that I owned in Elmira, Ontario. It was divided into four apartments. I lived in half of the main floor and my former sister-in-law Jeannie lived on the other side. Upstairs I had two other tenants Earl and his wife Evie, who was a midget and two elderly ladies – one in her late eighties and her companion helper who was in her mid seventies.
