Reading In My Garden
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 11, 2004 – Here I go rabbiting on again about my garden. It can’t be helped. This was a perfect weather weekend and I spent as much time as I could in my back yard. The sparrows and squirrels are always up early demanding that the feeder be hung. They’re a brazen, noisy lot and to my delight, they’re becoming increasingly oblivious to my presence amongst them.

It Wasn’t Meant To Be
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 10, 2004 – I am a supporter of The Toronto Humane Society and make a monthly contribution to the animals. I was working at my computer yesterday when their July newsletter came across my e-mail screen. I stopped to read through it. They currently have about 450 cats and kittens in need of homes and another two hundred more in foster care.

Bad Hair Months
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 9, 2004 – I’ve had short, spiky hair for about four years now. It’s a great cut, easy to manage, easy to style, no muss – no fuss. During this time – I’ve been a brunette, a blonde and a red head. It’s a short, chichi cut but I’m bored to tears with the way I look. What you may ask is the solution?

South African Media Gets A Failing Grade On Wildlife Issues
South African Media Gets A Failing Grade On Wildlife Issues – The “Media” is a controversial issue regardless of one’s country of origin. The media and the public – it is a convoluted relationship with no easy fix. The media drools over celebrities and nonsensical trivia and neglects to cover important issues. The media is fixated on one story of murder and mayhem to the exclusion of coverage of a racially charged incident. And the list goes on – why is this?

Back From Sombre Wednesday
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 8, 2004 – Today has been a revival of sorts. I’ve wallowed and now waded through the angst of the past couple of days. I’ve allowed external forces to move me away from the calm centre that exists within. I’m tough and I always bounce back.

Sometimes I’m In A Mood From Hell
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 7, 2004 – From the moment we emerge from the birth canal, girls are encouraged to be sweet, nice, non-confrontational quiet and preferably submissive. Toughness, anger, directness, confrontational behaviour and a competitive edge are for the boys on the jungle gym, the football field or the corporate boardroom.

Ho Hum
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – July 6, 2004 – It’s been one of those days! I woke up menopausal weary and bleary eyed. I finally made it down to the kitchen to look after The Alphabet Boys by about quarter to eight. The sparrows were already perched on the back fence chirping for their feeder. Augie and I went for our usual morning walk, followed by breakfast for one and all.
