The End Of The Day
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 29, 2004 – It was another busy day with measuring, feature sheet details and photography for a new real estate listing and then offers on another property this evening. I started to fade about four o’clock this afternoon, after a late night last evening watching the election returns, and the leaders’ speeches.

Election Day
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 28, 2004 – Election Day in Canada. This one is supposedly too close to call so taking the time to vote is essential. The “x” on my ballot, even though it’s supposed to be a secret, is going to be for Jack Layton. It’s time for a change in Riverdale. As I passed some of my neighbours on the way to the polling station this morning, we commented that we were on our way to exercise our right to vote.

Hunting is the kindest thing of all, says avid hunter Johan Smit, responding to Bradley Bergh’s excellent letter to WWF.
In his view, Texan huntress Kendall Jones pictured here, is being kind to the lion species.

Sport Hunting – Letters 1 And 2
Sport Hunting – Letters 1 And 2 – On June 23, 2014 – with his permission – I published Bradley Bergh’s excellent letter to WWF on my animal awareness blog A Beating Heart. He poses interesting questions to that organization about “sport” hunting. The post garnered some interesting comments. For context please re-read it here.

My Garden is Complete
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 27, 2004 – I’ve always wanted to have a bird feeder in my garden. How difficult could it be to go to a specialty bird store and buy one, equip it with seed and hang it from a hook? Evidently extremely so, as my garden has been a barren place for little birds all these years. Well, today that oversight has been redressed. I stopped into a store on Mt. Pleasant called Wild Bird.

A Remarkable Love
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 26, 2004 – I worked today from nine until two and then had the rest of the day to myself. My sister-in-law Dorothy and I had tentative plans to see a movie if time permitted in both our schedules. It’s been ages since I’ve been to see a new film and I was really looking forward to an afternoon lost in movie magic.

In Lieu Of A Weathervane
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 25, 2004 – Now that I know how and where to get a weathervane, I’m putting that pursuit on hold for the moment, until I see the exact one I want. Sending away to Cal-ee-for-ni-eh (I’m a big fan of Arnold) for a product I’ve never seen, seems a bit foolish. If I don’t like it, I’ll be stuck sending it back and trying to get a refund.
