Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 21
Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 21 – On factory farms most pigs are sent to slaughter at about 6 months of age (plus or minus). The sows are confined in gestation crates and repeatedly impregnated until their bodies wear out – and then they too – are hauled off to slaughter.

Pig Tales
Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 20 – So here’s the thing about pigs – religion comes into the conversation when speaking of pigs. Some cultures despise pigs because they have a cloven (split) hoof and do not chew their cud. As an animal they are considered to be unclean because they are omnivores and may consume “flesh”.

Pig Tales
Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 19 – So here’s the thing about pigs – our natural habitat is almost anywhere in the world. We’re omnivores so we can survive in most climates. Pigs are mammals and our early origins are from the Eurasian wild boar. We’re also called hogs or swine – which is a generic reference to all pigs – regardless of our gender, breed or country of origin.

Pig Tales
Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 18 – So here’s the thing about pigs – we are the final of the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac. Our brethren are – the rat – ox – tiger – rabbit – dragon – snake – horse – goat – monkey – rooster and dog and then us piggies (we stand for money, honesty, happiness and virility). Our fixed element is water and that’s why we like to swim so much. I’m pretty sure the dragon is an imposter!

Pig Tales
Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 17 – So here’s the thing about pigs – we are the inspiration for a lot of idioms in pop culture (most of them factually incorrect) – and I have to say – I just don’t like this fact at all. For instance – “sweat like a pig” – pigs don’t sweat – we have no sweat glands – the very reason why we like to swim and roll in the mud. “Pig out” – to eat like a glutton – the reality is that we are famous for only eating until we are full – we know nothing of over-indulging.

Pig Tales
Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 16 – So here’s the thing about pigs – we are #4 – that’s right 4th in the smarts category. Only chimpanzees – dolphins and the mighty elephants are deemed to be more intelligent than we are – and personally I’m not so sure about the dolphins.
And something else I bet you didn’t know – just like babies – we like to investigate things with our mouths. We’re inquisitive and testing something by tasting it is natural for us. That’s why we like to root around with our snouts and why humans who don’t want us to disturb their precious grounds or gardens do this to us. It is incredibly painful for our sensitive noses and denies us our most basic instincts. Some human people are not very nice!

The Suffering Of Arturo
The Suffering Of Arturo – For a fleeting moment in time he imagined himself diving into the frigid water. In his dream – he and his friend Pelusa scrambled out of the water and chased each other over the frozen Arctic tundra – their thick white fur sending water droplets flying into the cold, morning air – their feet strong and sure on the glacier ice.
