And in the olden days – big ships always had pigs on board because if they foundered in a storm the sailors believed that we would always swim for the closest land. We do love the water!

Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 6 – So here’s the thing about pigs – depending on the species, female pigs mature at 8 to 18 months of age and males at 8 to 10 months. A male pig is a boar. A female is called a gilt until she has piglets – at which point she is referred to as a sow. The average litter numbers between 7 to 12 piglets. Piglets actually know the noises and grunts of their own mothers and the mothers sing or talk to their litters as they are nursing.

Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 5 – So here’s the thing about pigs – we are actually omnivores. Got it? We like to eat roots, leaves, flowers, fruit and tree twigs and even the odd piece of crunchy bark. But we will also scoop up wiggly worms and insects and carcasses – both fresh and rotting. And contrary to popular belief – we really like to enjoy our food – so we eat very slowly and deliberately.

But I am told that the people of Nepal are mostly wonderful and that it is a country of great beauty. Over the last 2 days the government sanctioned slaughter of innocent animals has again taken place. A frenzied killing of sentient beings to appease a Hindu Goddess.

We can tell Momma that we’re hungry, happy and that we love each other. We can also learn our names in as little as two weeks time and we’ll come when called.
