Olivia Munn For PETA
Actress Olivia Munn’s heritage is Chinese. She did a video for PETA about fur farms in China – where there are no animal protection laws and no penalties for animal cruelty. Like most people she was not aware of the brutality of the fur farming industry. The fur industries worldwide do a masterful job of hiding the dirty and vile secrets of this appalling business.
NOTE: The video that Olivia Munn made for PETA in 2011 – is graphic and disturbing – so be advised before you watch it.

Fur Farms
When I decided to add a category to my Blog on fur farms and fashion I came to the task with childhood memories. I started to read and do some research and I was soon horrified and repulsed by what I learned.

David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – Africa
I will always be grateful to have discovered the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in 2007. At the time I was attending a meeting with Paul MacKenzie of Ele-Host Web Designs in Toronto to discuss the hosting of my real estate website. I noticed elephant pictures and sculptures in Paul’s office, and being a long time admirer of elephants, I asked about them. Paul told me about his trip to visit the Trust in Africa and I was delighted to learn about the incredibly important work being done on behalf of the orphaned elephants.

Elephants
Of all the animals in the world – (next to my 3 precious dogs) – I feel the strongest affinity for elephants. I’ve never been to Africa (it’s on my dream vacation list) – but I have admired elephants for a long time. When I turned 21, my Mother gave me a beautiful antique sculpture of a baby elephant standing next to his mother. The mother’s trunk is curled protectively around her calf. It stands on the book shelf in my office and it is one of my most prized possessions.

Rhinos
The Rhinoceros – from the Family Rhinoceroidae – is commonly referred to as a Rhino. It’s believed that the earliest Rhino is the Sumatran Rhino – descended from the Woolly Rhino over 15 million years ago. These animals, in similar fashion to the Woolly Mammoth, were hunted to extinction by early man. Today’s rhino is a thick skinned, mostly hairless animal with more slender legs than the portly hippo, and three toes. A lot of people are not aware that the Rhino is endangered.
