A Sick Puppy

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 3, 2004 – I had a long, exhausting day today. I picked up my first clients at nine-thirty in the morning. I was back home for an hour between three an four and then gone again until one o’clock in the morning. When I opened the back door to the kitchen, I could see Augie standing in the downstairs hallway.

Death Trucks & Chicken Catching

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – June 2, 2004 – In my last year of public school and during grades nine and ten, I was determined to have my own money, so I got every odd job imaginable to supplement my allowance. After school I watered the mink at the farm across the highway from my home.

I Can’t Quite Believe It

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 31, 2004 – It’s the last day of May and I’m sitting down at my computer, late afternoon, to compose Story #153. Woman Of Pergola

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 30, 2004 – It is done. I am Woman Of Pergola. The yard has been cleaned, swept and washed down. The trees, shrubs and plants have all been showered and the patio furniture is back in place. The French wrought iron brackets are tucked up into the corners and the smaller iron ones are on each of the four pillars.

Dee-Vee-Dee

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 29, 2004 – At the end of some days, there’s simply nothing better than a trip to the video store to rent a couple of DVD’s. A couple of years ago Eric and Dorothy gave me a combination VHS-DVD player for Christmas, just as the heads on my original VCR were breaking down.

Pergola Update

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 28, 2004 – Well, if I thought I was excited on Tuesday when John came to look at my back garden and discuss pergola possibilities, I’m delirious today. The basic structure is up. Each of the four corners is made up of three 4×4’s that are ten feet tall. They form an open, airy corner, rather than a solid column and shrubs are peeking through and adding greenery to the interior.
