A Teeny-Weeny Little Scare
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 27, 2004 – Do the words “back-up” mean anything to you? I My computer is protected with an anti-virus program and a sophisticated firewall, to frighten away any worms and viruses that may happen my way – not to mention Trojan horses. Pop-up ads and spam have been largely filtered out of my system, so one would think I could rest easyily when it comes to my computer.

Back Yard Pergola
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 26, 2004 – Hooray – construction starts tomorrow! I’m forever mixing up the terms pagoda and pergola, so I’ve gone to my trusty Webster’s and looked up the words. I’m having a “pergola” built over a section of my back garden. When I bought this house the landscaping was minimal and I’ve spent a number of years creating my gardens.

Odd Occurrences
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 25, 2004 – People are strange and wonderful creations, capable of extremes in behaviour that are incredible. Witness the state of our world today. I like to think (perhaps naively so) that most people are decent at heart. The exceptions stand out by virtue of their appalling conduct, and one day they will answer to a power far greater than ours.

The Five Senses
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 24, 2004 – What a gift we humans were given when our Creator bestowed the five senses upon us. The ability to see, hear smell, taste and feel. I have great admiration for people who have lost one or more of their senses, and prevail as productive, happy individuals. I can’t imagine surrendering one of these treasures, even for a day.

A Lazy Day
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 23, 2004 – After four incredibly busy weeks, I now have two days off, one right after the other. That’s a concept, common to many people, but not to me. Working as a real estate agent, evenings and week-ends are my busiest times, and I often go for long periods of time with no days to myself.

Spontaneity
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 22, 2004 – The only thing I know about spontaneity is that there isn’t enough of it in the world. The world aside, there isn’t enough spontaneity in my life. As I’ve gotten older, there is less and less. This is not a good thing. Perhaps a remedy is in order. Thinking about the lack of this essential attribute makes me wonder if I was ever thus. Did I ever do wild and zany things?

Pause For Thought
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – May 21, 2004 – Howard’s doctor arrived this morning for a consultation. He had a shiny tool box with him and a big bag of spare parts. Howard didn’t show much emotion but I was immediately alarmed. I was expecting Howard’s sick bits to be repaired not replaced. It was difficult to watch as Howard was unscrewed and opened up.
