Having A Nap
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 29, 2004 – Naps should be mandatory. All companies and businesses should be required to have a nap room, fully equipped with sensible single beds, soft lighting and perhaps a sound system playing gentle, classical music. Harp or flute would be good choices.

Birds
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 28, 2004 – God gave us the gift of ‘birds’ for a day such as this one. A bit gray and dull with rain threatening and just cool enough to know that spring is still elusive. I had work to do today but I was sorely lacking in the motivation department, even though I did one of my dreaded tasks first thing, no doubt motivated by yesterday’s words on procrastination.

Procrastination
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 27, 2004 – Not only am I The Queen of Rationalization, I am The Princess of Procrastination. Some mornings I have to decide which crown to plop on the old noggin, and both are tarnished from too much wear. I try not to be swayed by the bright perky people who say, “I just get right up in the morning and do all the tasks are on my “dislike list” first – then I can get on with my day and enjoy everything else.

A Trip To The Garden Centre
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 26, 2004 – I look forward to my first trip to the garden centre every spring. I haven’t decided yet when I’m going, but it will be soon. The weather just needs to be a smidge warmer, so I can wear jeans and a tee-shirt. I’ve been going to Bill’s Garden Centre on Pape Avenue for twenty years or more.

The Kitchen
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 25, 2004 – This room is definitely the ‘heart of the house’. I sometimes wonder how many momentous decisions have been made sitting around the kitchen table, in homes around the world. When my brothers and I were small children we were assigned a place at the kitchen table.

Progress Report
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 24, 2004 – Thank goodness I didn’t make “exercise” a new year’s resolution! I’m having enough trouble keeping the one I did commit to, which was to drink more water. Now you make ask – how could that be so difficult – get a glass, fill it full of water, pick it up and bend your elbow. Okay, that part is easy enough – it’s the remembering bit that I keep forgetting. But I’m working away at it.

Magazine Madness
Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – April 23, 2004 – May’s issue of Chatelaine is sizzling off the press and in my hot little hands. I’m not a big consumer of magazines, but I subscribed to this particular one this year, not for the reason that men subscribe to Playboy, which is for the articles; but just to have some light bedside page turning before sleepy time. The cover was encouraging:
