Pig Tales by Iggy Oink – 20 – So here’s the thing about pigs – religion comes into the conversation when speaking of pigs. Some cultures despise pigs because they have a cloven (split) hoof and do not chew their cud. As an animal they are considered to be unclean because they are omnivores and may consume “flesh”.

And something else I bet you didn’t know – religion gives people the excuse they need to sacrifice animals – God has forbidden the eating of pork. Pigs are sacrificed in many cultures. These deaths are never swift or painless. The bound and terrified animals are killed while fully conscious. This is simply another example of mans’ complete disregard for the welfare of sentient beings – using God as the excuse for brutality, torture and killing. If humans were smart enough they would instead examine their own need for killing and cruelty. Sadly intelligence is a rare human trait.
