Glass

Short Stories From 10 Years Ago – January 10, 2004 – Some days it’s harder than others to be aware of something that is positive and fulfilling in my life, and to make a conscious choice to see the good, rather than fall into the familiar routine of negative thinking.

It’s very cold today and I know that I have to go out to the bank. Not a task I particularly enjoy – although on deeper reflection – an undertaking I should relish. So enough of this whining and counter-productive chatter. The Universe has blessed me with money to deposit into my account.

Already my attitude is changing. It’s still bitterly cold and windy outside – I know because I can see out the window in my home office. There, I’ve got it. Today I’m thankful for the wonder of ‘glass’ in all its myriad forms.

Just think for a moment of this miraculous medium. Where would we be if not for glass. Imagine if you can what life would be like without:

Windows in our homes and buildings.

Windshields in our cars.

Light bulbs for lamps.

Glass for framed pictures.

Glass hearts that make us smile.

I have a lovely collection of Boda crystal animals, fabulous panels of stained and leaded glass that hang in my living and dining room windows and an assortment of beautiful antique, coloured glass in my den, left to me by my Mother. These are among my most cherished possessions.
